Individual Therapy

You are at a new stage in your life and you don’t quite feel ready for it. You would like to feel calmer and more confident. You often feel on edge, have a hard time sleeping, and overthink conversations with friends and coworkers. You worry a lot.

Working with me will allow you to:

  • Explore and address past experiences

  • Develop greater self-awareness so that you can feel confident as you move into this next phase

  • Practice and fine-tune tools that you can use in the moment when anxiety, worry, or upset arises

Once you contact me, we will :

  • First, schedule a brief complimentary phone consultation so that I can get a sense of what you are looking to work on, answer any questions you may have, and explore whether I am a good fit for you.

  • If we decide I am a good fit, before the first session, you will receive some forms and policies via email to review and sign before we meet.

  • The first session is longer than a typical session and is usually 60 minutes in length. I treat the first session as an intake session in which we first briefly review the policies and consents that you signed electronically. The bulk of the first session involves me asking you questions to better understand some of your past experiences and your current challenges. If at any point, I ask a question that you are not comfortable with answering, please let me know and we will move on. This first session is also an additional opportunity for us to further explore whether I am a good fit for you.

You can finally process past scary and painful experiences. You can feel less impacted by past trauma. You can explore the anxiety that you have been silently battling and that has shown up as perfectionism and self-criticism. You can learn strategies to help you calm your body when worry creeps into your day. What we discuss is 100% confidential. You deserve to feel supported and to experience relief. I work with professional women to provide them with compassionate, strengths-based and trauma-informed therapeutic support.

In subsequent sessions, I will not ask as many questions as I did in the first session. Although I often come prepared with thoughts or questions, I follow your lead in sessions and you can let me know what you have in mind to explore that day. If we have begun to do some heavy work like processing a past trauma and you do not want to continue that work in a given session, please let me know and we can pause that work for that session. If you did not like the visualization exercise that I ended the previous session with, please let me know that too. Our work together is guided by your needs and your honest and open feedback.

Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

At times clients who already have an individual therapist with whom they are working come to me short-term for EMDR work. Perhaps you are very satisfied with your current therapist, but you have become stuck in your work together and your therapist is recommending EMDR but is not trained in this modality. I also work with clients who are looking for standalone EMDR support.

Contact me to schedule a consultation to discuss what kind of experience(s) you are looking to process. If I am a good fit for you, we will begin our EMDR work together with an initial intake session in which I ask questions to gain an understanding of your background, the experiences that you are looking to address, and your currently practiced regulation strategies. I will also have you sign a form granting me permission to speak with your current therapist to coordinate your care.

Subsequent sessions will begin with us working together to build your “toolbox” for regulation before we start the intense work of EMDR. We will also develop a plan for the order in which we address your past traumatic experiences (if there are more than one) and for the logistics of the EMDR desensitization. After that, we will begin the desensitization process. Your honest, open feedback is crucial during EMDR. I will know that we are making progress when you report that the memories we are targeting are becoming less disturbing to think about.

Behavior Consultation for Parents: You don’t want to parent your child the way that you were parented.

A woman sits on a sofa with her child.

You have sort of been “winging it” with parenting and using strategies that you see on Instagram and TikTok. When you are unsure, upset, or anxious, you tend to revert to strategies that were used by your parents or to what is familiar.

I also work with clients to provide behavior consultation for children birth through 12 years. Through consultation, I do not work with your child directly and instead I support you in implementing positive parenting strategies with your child. Strategies discussed are aimed at preventing challenging behaviors and also at how to respond when your child is demonstrating unwanted negative behaviors. Recommended strategies are based in positive behavior management approaches.

If you want to finally address past distressing events, make connections between your experiences and your current habits, and learn practical tools to maintain calm in your day-to-day life, I would love to help you get there.
